Weather Record is Weather Stream's subscription nowcasting service for monitoring extreme rainfall and severe weather. It is aimed at organisations with assets and operations in remote and under-served regions that have no coverage from ground-based solutions, such as the Western Pacific Ocean, which is subject to typhoons and rapidly developing convective thunderstorms.
The service collects and analyses weather observations from shared global data sources and turns them into near-real-time precipitation products and alerts of extreme rainfall and severe weather. The example data on the product page is generated hourly from NASA satellite data, which arrives with a delay of approximately 4-6 hours. Weather Stream states that it will expand these inputs with its own satellite constellation (GEMS), equipped with passive microwave sounders that observe temperature, humidity and precipitation through cloud cover and darkness.
The geographic area of interest can be set to any location on the planet. Precipitation-rate PNG images and GeoTIFFs (NetCDF is also offered) are delivered automatically to the customer's cloud storage or FTP server, with a delivery cycle as often as every half hour.
Weather Record is currently offered as early access over specific areas of interest, arranged through Weather Stream's contact form. In January 2022 Weather Stream announced that its GEMS, WeatherRecord and WeatherLock capabilities had been selected for the US Department of Defense's Defense Exportability Features (DEF) program after nomination by the US Space Force.

Weather Stream Inc.
Weather Stream Inc. is a Boulder, Colorado satellite operator, founded in 2015 as Orbital Micro Systems, that designs, builds and operates passive microwave radiometer instruments to monitor the global atmosphere. Its Global Environmental Monitoring System (GEMS) CubeSats collect temperature, humidity and precipitation profiles in all weather, which it combines with public observations, physics models and machine learning. It sells microwave sounder data and weather products, including the Weather Record nowcasting and Weather Lock forecasting services, to government and commercial customers.
