Satellite-driven fertilizer application maps and precision-farming advisory

Fertisat addresses inefficient fertilizer use and the environmental and economic costs of blanket application by converting satellite imagery into actionable variable-rate application (VRA) maps for cereal-crop growers. The service ingests Sentinel-2 optical imagery and Sentinel-1 SAR radar data, applying remote-sensing algorithms and agronomic models to estimate vegetation status, soil moisture, and nutrient demand across fields, then produces prescription maps and advisory reports for variable-rate fertilizer application of N, P, K, and Ca. Its radar module provides near-daily observability in all-weather and low-light conditions, overcoming the cloud-cover limitation of optical-only systems and enabling timely, data-driven interventions. Field results show a 19.5% reduction in nitrogen applied (35 kg N/ha saved), and the radar technology delivers a 10–15% reduction in total fertiliser use per season. Fertisat operates as a Progressive Web Application accessible on mobile, tablet, and desktop — including offline — and exports ISO-XML application maps compatible with ISOBUS-equipped farm machinery. The service is commercially deployed across approximately 1,000 farms in northern Poland and has been recognised with a REGIOSTARS Award for excellence in EU-funded innovation.
