Vulcan is SynMax's monitoring product for power infrastructure, data centers and LNG facilities, built for power traders, utilities, grid operators and planners, infrastructure investors and risk teams. It addresses the lag and unreliability of developer timelines, permits and official filings such as the EIA-860M by observing what is physically being built.
Vulcan reviews weekly satellite imagery of power generation, data center, LNG and gas pipeline projects, recording observable milestones (land clearing, first structures, construction completion). From these it produces earliest, median and latest predicted online dates and a Weekly Progress Indicator score per project. SynMax reports monitoring over 4,170 projects weekly, and in June 2026 it published a back-check of its data center forecasts against reported start-up dates for 168 projects totalling 11 GW. Thermal drone surveys add an energization signal for completed sites. The Vulcan Infrastructure Watch service benchmarks Sentinel-2 imagery against baselines and adds VIIRS thermal fire detections to flag change and damage at energy facilities, such as Persian Gulf refineries and gas plants in 2026.
Coverage started in North America and has extended to data center campuses in Europe, Asia and Oceania. Clients use the Vulcan web platform (map, dashboards, project alerts), a REST API with a Python client, Snowflake and an Excel add-in. A private monitoring add-on lets clients have up to 50 sites of their choice monitored weekly. Data center project records come from a partnership with Industrial Info Resources (IIR). SynMax reports that in May 2025 it signed an agreement with ERCOT to use Vulcan for visibility of generation projects and large loads.
