Urban planners, environmentalists, real estate developers and municipal green space offices need accurate, up-to-date data on urban green spaces to make decisions on urban planning, environmental protection and property management. mundialis's Urban Green Spaces data package provides a detailed map of all green spaces in a customer's urban area.
The data is produced by an operational green space processor developed by mundialis, which uses machine learning to classify digital orthophotos (DOPs) and satellite images. So that no manually created training data is needed, the processor generates rule-based training data automatically from official cadastral data (ALKIS), OpenStreetMap and Copernicus Sentinel-2 data. The detected green areas are then intersected with parcel boundaries and other data so that they can be quantified.
The outputs distinguish public from private green space by intersection with ALKIS, differentiate grass, shrub and tree cover, identify and quantify elements such as pathways, playgrounds, parking lots and street furniture, and give the size of each green area. The package supports proximity and accessibility analysis, area capture for budget planning, large-area surveys and automated change detection over time.
Stated applications include planning new green spaces, reducing inner-city green space deficits, optimising existing parks, assessing green structures as a quality-of-life and property value indicator, and monitoring green structures as an indicator of the urban climate. Results are delivered in common geodata formats or as an OGC web service, and mundialis states that each product can be customised. mundialis is certified to DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 and DIN EN ISO 14001:2015.
