THEIA is a modular geospatial platform from Glasgow-based EOLAS Insight, a self-described "consultancy-driven SaaS company", built to reduce environmental organisations' reliance on complex GIS tools. It comes in three forms. THEIA Workflow is a portal for non-geospatial professionals organised around three project stages: THEIA Map automates sourcing, clipping and downloading map packs and reports; THEIA Plan offers simplified layer editing, vector drawing, hosted data and customisable reports; and THEIA Monitor is a dashboard with 3D digital twins, alerts, time sliders and Earth observation tools for tracking change over time. THEIA API supplies customisable geospatial data streams, such as weather, fire risk and vegetation indices, for developers to integrate into non-geospatial software, with users subscribing to the regions they need. THEIA Bespoke covers custom web-mapping platforms built by EOLAS's data scientists, web developers and geospatial specialists.
The space input is satellite imagery processed with AI. EOLAS processes Sentinel-2 multispectral data at scale (its largest job handled nearly a petabyte on about 500 cloud machines) and uses high-resolution satellite imagery to detect and count animals; some deployments use aerial or drone imagery instead. Deployments include the Natural Capital Tool and Nature Finance Exchange built with NatureScot, a THEIA Monitor portal for human-wildlife conflict in Mozambique's Limpopo and Banhine National Parks with Peace Parks Foundation and Omanos Analytics (European Space Agency funded), and a 3D puffin-monitoring platform with the National Trust for Scotland and NatureScot.
