TerraTools is terrain-generation software from BAE Systems OneArc, originally a TerraSim product, for military simulation and training. Training exercises that connect different simulations need the same real-world location as correlated terrain in each simulator's own format.
TerraTools compiles one project into several correlated terrain exports. Users import elevation data, satellite imagery, vector data and 3D models, and a project flow graph processes them into a 3D terrain database. Automated tools generate destructible buildings with interiors, road networks with AI navigation, and bodies of water. Export targets include VBS3, VBS4 and Blue IG, CDB, OpenFlight, OneSAF, JCATS, MASA SWORD, OpenSceneGraph and Unreal/Unity (FBX). Batch Mode Manager and Distributed Processing instances scale the production of large tiled terrains across a single workstation, a local network or the cloud.
The product is now sold as one edition, TerraTools Platinum, which consolidates the former Core, VBS, Gov and Max bundles and includes the data-preparation tools DEMTools (merging and refining digital elevation models), Building Designer, MaterialMAP (supervised image classification that produces surface-material maps for mobility, routing and sensor simulation) and Xtract (extracting geospatial data and models from legacy terrains). It runs on 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 workstations.
In March 2026 the Danish Army selected OneArc for a seven-year simulation modernisation agreement that includes TerraTools Platinum. A support package gives licence holders upgrades, support services and customer-portal access; professional services and instructor-led TerraTools training (Standard and Advanced) are also offered.
