Sylvera Ratings are independent assessments of carbon credit quality from Sylvera, a UK carbon data provider. Quality varies widely across carbon projects, so credit buyers, investors, developers and government bodies need a consistent, independent signal to compare credits, manage delivery risk and justify decisions.
Each Full Rating applies a published, project-type-specific framework to four pillars (carbon accounting, additionality, permanence and co-benefits) and combines them into a letter grade on an AAA–D scale. Estimated Ratings give lighter-touch ranges on the same scale for screening large portfolios, and Pre-Issuance ratings assess projects before credits are issued. Sylvera's analysts produce each rating independently; a full rating typically takes 3–5 weeks.
For REDD+, improved forest management and ARR projects, Sylvera checks a project's claimed carbon stock changes against its own biomass time series. This is built with machine learning from multispectral, radar and spaceborne lidar satellite data (Sylvera names Landsat-7 and -8, Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2, ALOS PALSAR and GEDI as examples) and calibrated with its own terrestrial and drone lidar field measurements. Fire and forest-change datasets such as NASA FIRMS and Global Forest Change are also used.
Ratings are updated quarterly and when significant events occur; a project is placed 'On Watch' when its rating is likely to change. More than 3,000 project ratings are available through Sylvera's web platform, with a free tier, and through a REST API that also feeds platforms such as Xpansiv CBL and Climate Impact X, and, since June 2026, through the Bloomberg Terminal's carbon market solutions. Published customer cases include Ecobase, aDryada and Tokyo Gas. Sylvera states it is ISO 27001 certified.

Sylvera
Sylvera provides independent ratings and market intelligence for carbon credits and low-carbon commodities. Its products include carbon credit ratings on an AAA to D scale for more than 3,000 projects, from pre-issuance onwards, market intelligence on supply, demand and pricing, an Article 6 & CORSIA Hub, and carbon intensity and eligibility assessments for commodities. For nature-based projects it uses its own biomass and Earth observation data, including Biomass Atlas, a forest carbon dataset calibrated with multi-scale lidar field campaigns.
