SWIFTMine

SWIFTMine is an online mine-monitoring platform from Swift Geospatial, a GIS company based in South Africa. Mining teams and landholders often see changes on large or remote sites late, and depend on costly field visits and slow, paper-based reporting. SWIFTMine replaces part of that with recurring satellite monitoring of the areas of interest the client uploads. The system collects Planet's 3 m, 8-band PlanetScope imagery at a frequency the client chooses (near-daily, weekly, biweekly, monthly or ad hoc), and adds higher-resolution Vantor imagery for base mapping and detailed analyses.

On that imagery it runs automated change detection and encroachment monitoring. It tracks the surface area and surface water of tailings storage facilities (TSFs), including the distance between tailings and the dam wall. It also counts dwellings to follow settlement growth around operations. An automated fire-monitoring option uses NASA thermal infrared sensors to detect hotspots, sends an alert, and schedules Planet imagery over the following seven days for burn-scar and post-fire assessment. Results appear in one dashboard with time sliders, dual-map comparison, a monitoring page and a customisable report tool that covers a single pit, a licence boundary or a whole mine.

The platform is aimed at active, closed and prospective mines and at government-owned land. Add-on services include in-field surveys, mine-site digitisation, biodiversity assessments, land-cover classification and high-resolution base mapping. The provider states that its systems are REST API compatible and can link to mine-planning, ERP and sensor systems. Pricing is by free quotation, made up of platform, storage and hosting, setup and optional support-hour costs.
