Sorraline is a web application from Spascat Technologies that extracts the coastline from satellite imagery for an area the user draws. Beaches change constantly, and coastal managers need objective, regularly updated measurements of where the shoreline lies. Sorraline processes Copernicus Sentinel-2 imagery at 10 m pixel resolution with proprietary computer vision algorithms, which the provider says were validated by the Catalan Institute of Cartography and Geology (ICGC), and turns each weekly image into a georeferenced line where sand and water meet.
Users browse the dates for which imagery exists, check cloud coverage over their area, preview the true-colour image, generate the coastline and download it as GeoJSON with metadata for use in GIS software. Past coastlines can be overlaid and compared with recent ones, and email notifications report new data. Since May 2025 an OAuth2-secured API lets partners register regions of interest, retrieve imagery and extract coastline vectors programmatically; the Italian coastal platform Coste360.it has integrated Sorraline into its service.
Spascat lists four uses: measuring the effects of climate change on beaches, checking whether local erosion-control policies work, managing beach concessions, and locating seaside infrastructure after storms. According to EUSPA, Sorraline monitors 200 km of coastline across 12 municipalities with 90% accuracy.
