SoloKat is KatRisk's location-level catastrophe risk tool for insurers and the wider financial services industry. Underwriters pricing a single property need hazard and loss figures at the moment of quote rather than after a portfolio model run. SoloKat evaluates a location as a single point: from latitude/longitude, coverage values, construction, number of stories, basement, first-floor elevation and deductibles/limits (defaults are used where data is unknown) it returns inland flood and storm surge depths and tropical cyclone wind speeds, each with a 1-10 risk score and average annual loss, together with return-period hazard values and lookups such as base flood elevation, local elevation, levee information, FEMA zone and HUC/HydroBasin zone. KatRisk states API response times under one second.
Coverage is inland flood worldwide, storm surge in the US and Australia, and tropical cyclone wind, severe convective storm and wildfire in the US. Vulnerability curves and their assumptions, data lookups and risk scores can all be customised, and adjacent locations can be looked up automatically to test model variability. The hazard comes from KatRisk's own physics-based models: its Canadian flood model, for example, runs on a unified 10 m terrain model that uses lidar where it exists and an enhanced, bare-earth version of the satellite-derived Copernicus DEM elsewhere.
SoloKat is KatRisk-hosted, accessed via API with no client setup, and can be used on its own or with SpatialKat. KatRisk says customers have built company-wide point-of-sale underwriting platforms on it that have been in service for more than five years. Wright Flood uses the SoloKat API for real-time pricing of private flood insurance, delivering near-instant quotes.
