ruumi

ruumi is a grazing-management and sustainability-programme platform for livestock farmers and the food supply chains that buy from them. Supply chains need evidence that farmers in their sustainability programmes are changing practices, while farmers are reluctant to adopt yet another tool that only benefits the buyer.

For farmers, ruumi provides an iOS, Android and web app to map fields, manage livestock groups, plan grazing rotations and build month-by-month feed budgets with scenario planning. Each field shows a daily Total Cover estimate (kg DM/ha) and a within-field cover map. The estimate combines a grass growth model with the farmer's own dry-matter readings and logged events, and ruumi watches each field with Sentinel-1 radar and Sentinel-2 optical imagery: a sustained drop in radar backscatter together with a fall in greenness proposes a grazing or silage event, which the farmer accepts or rejects.

For supply chains, ruumi baselines each farm using existing data, soil samples and satellite imagery, gives every farmer a personalised assessment and action plan, and provides dashboards and compliance-ready reports on farmer progress, using satellite imagery and soil sampling for independent verification. The app is free for farmers; supply-chain programmes sponsor it and receive sustainability insights, and farm data is shared only with the farmer's permission. ruumi states it is used by more than 2,000 farmers across the UK and Ireland from supply chains including Lidl, Dunbia, Dovecote Park and Pattemores, and Lidl GB names the ruumi app among the partners of its Sustainable Beef Group.
