Remote Sensing & GIS Services

Remote Sensing & GIS Services is the bespoke analysis and implementation service line of Swift Geospatial, a GIS and remote sensing company based in Pretoria, South Africa. It is aimed at decision makers who would otherwise rely on scattered reports or delayed feedback from the field.

The service manages land cover and land use generation and detailed mapping from geospatial data collection through to the final deliverable. It applies multispectral satellite imagery to tasks ranging from material identification to vegetation health monitoring. It also offers GIS analytics (from zonal statistics to trend analysis), map production, database implementation and management, GIS system implementation and GIS software training. Imagery comes through the company's partnerships with Planet (daily 3 m PlanetScope) and Vantor (Legion Series WorldView imagery, with new tasking at up to 15 cm).

Swift also describes an urban tree-counting service for cities. It combines tasked 15 cm imagery, 5 m hyperspectral data and monthly 3 m multispectral imagery with machine learning to detect individual trees, classify species and track tree health, and delivers the results through a cloud-based dashboard built by Swift's team.

Other published applications include surface-water monitoring, encroachment detection, highlighting risk zones and measuring rehabilitation progress at mines, exploration support, and agricultural stress mapping. Swift Geospatial is an Esri Gold partner and won the Analytics to Insights Award at the 2021 Esri Partner Conference.
