Profound-IVT

Profound-IVT (Instant Vehicle Tracking) is a positioning and navigation firmware library from Profound Positioning Inc. of Calgary, Canada. Vehicle GNSS degrades or drops out in tunnels, parking garages, multi-level highway junctions and dense urban streets, and high-precision alternatives usually depend on base-station infrastructure or on costly sensors.

Profound-IVT combines Precise Point Positioning (PPP) on single-frequency signals from low-cost consumer and automotive GNSS chips with inertial dead reckoning and automotive radar. The provider states that it supports all current GNSS constellations, and its brochure shows GPS, Galileo, GLONASS and BeiDou. The fused solution outputs position, orientation and velocity at decimeter level (0.5 m CEP stated), resolves in under 5 seconds, can start without an initial GNSS fix, needs no base stations, and is insensitive to latency and loss of augmentation data. The 2021 brochure states errors below 1% of distance travelled.

The library can be customised to work with various navigation chips and modules and runs in real time on mainstream processors. It is offered to automotive companies, OEMs, system integrators and solution providers for advanced driver assistance, autonomous vehicle navigation, fleet management, geofencing, mobility services and mobile-device applications.

Two editions apply the same fusion technology to other platforms: Profound-Mobile for smartphones (in-vehicle navigation, sports performance tracking, location-based services, augmented reality and gaming) and Profound-UAV for drones, which works with low-cost GNSS chips and modules and is backed by the provider's PPP+ and INS+ technologies.
