Planet Monitoring is Planet's subscription to near-daily satellite imagery of Earth's landmass from its PlanetScope constellation of Dove satellites. It is aimed at organisations that need a continuous, current view of land, assets and operations, including in remote or dispersed areas, and want to identify change as it happens.
Hundreds of SuperDove satellites (the current generation of Planet's Dove fleet) in sun-synchronous orbit image all of Earth's landmass almost every day, collecting over 300 million square kilometres of imagery daily; imagery from earlier Doves forms the archive. Scenes are delivered at about 3 m resolution in four bands (blue, green, red, near-infrared) or, from SuperDove satellites, eight bands, six of which are interoperable with Sentinel-2 bands. Buyers can also subscribe to Analysis-Ready PlanetScope, a harmonised 3 m surface-reflectance product cross-calibrated with Landsat, Sentinel-2, MODIS and VIIRS for time-series analysis and machine learning. Customers select areas of interest and update frequency, receive alerts when new imagery arrives, and access current and archive imagery (PlanetScope scenes date from 2014) through Planet's web application, its Data, Orders and Subscriptions APIs and Python SDK, ArcGIS and QGIS integrations, or delivery to cloud storage and Google Earth Engine.
Planet cites Bayer Crop Science, which monitors seed production fields across four continents; the New Mexico State Land Office, which uncovered 53 trespasses yielding $2.7 million in back payments; and Pan Pac, which automated reporting on harvested forest areas. Self-service Insights Flex plans, covering PlanetScope scenes 30 days and older, start at US$110 a month; fresher imagery and larger areas are sold through Planet's sales team.
