Ozius Biome is an Earth observation data platform from Brisbane-based Ozius that maps the structure of vegetation at national scale, so that government agencies, environmental professionals, natural capital investors, utilities and energy companies can assess large landscapes without lengthy field campaigns. Its vegetation structure metrics are created with Ozius's proprietary AI-enabled processing from the combined inputs of Copernicus Sentinel-1 radar and Sentinel-2 optical imagery and NASA GEDI spaceborne lidar; Ozius states that combining optical, microwave and lidar sensors improves the modelling of sparse vegetation and limits saturation in dense vegetation.
Products come in three suites: Core Vegetation Structure (canopy cover and vegetation height), Biodiversity (habitat vegetation structure, such as foliage and plant projective cover) and Natural Capital (forest and biomass baselines under the NGGI, Kyoto and UN FAO forest definitions). Trend and anomaly detection and bespoke products, which can add very high-resolution Pléiades and WorldView-2 imagery, are offered to enterprise and government customers. In validation against TERN field sites presented at EIANZ 2022, canopy cover estimates reported an RMSE of 8.2%.
Users visualise and query 10 m pixels in the web platform, upload their own area of interest, run summary statistics and receive data via API or WMTS. Plans include a free Explore tier, an open data store for non-commercial research, project pricing of AUD 0.01 to 0.30 per hectare (AUD 300 minimum) and custom Enterprise & Govt plans with training and support. Launched in July 2022 and built on AWS, Biome is used by the Australian Federal Government, the Queensland State Government, The Wilderness Society Australia, Market Advisory Group and RedEye; AWS reports that over 115 million hectares of Biome data were sold in its first month.

Ozius
Ozius is an Australian company that fuses artificial intelligence, remote sensing and environmental science to help clients understand natural and built environments, and has worked with clients across industries since 2014. Its Ozius Biome platform provides national-scale vegetation structure, biodiversity and natural capital data products modelled from Copernicus Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 imagery and NASA GEDI lidar, plus change and anomaly detection. It also delivers tailored analysis projects, for example habitat mapping for biodiversity offsets and satellite monitoring of riverbank rehabilitation.
