OrbitfyEDGE is the in-orbit insight service of Little Place Labs' Orbitfy suite. It addresses the delay in conventional satellite monitoring, where raw imagery must be downlinked and processed on the ground before anyone sees a result, which the provider says takes hours.
The software runs AI/ML models on the onboard computers of partner satellites, analyses the captured imagery in orbit and sends down only the resulting alerts and insights. The provider's target is an alert within 7 minutes of capture; in August 2025 it reported that demonstrations averaged 21 minutes. It describes its partner network as offering optical, multispectral, hyperspectral, thermal, SAR and RF sensing, with up to 8 revisits a day over critical areas. Users request monitoring of areas of interest and receive alerts through the OrbitfyVIEW web portal.
Published applications are wildfire alerts and burnt-area estimates, monitoring of ports and warehouses for commodity traders, stockpile monitoring and disaster claim validation for finance and insurance, and defence change and anomaly alerts. Its vessel detection and classification module reports over 86% ship-detection precision and cross-checks detections against AIS data to flag possible dark vessels; a published example identified a possible ship-to-ship transfer off Malaysia in Planet SkySat sample imagery.
Orbitfy has been demonstrated on D-Orbit's ION carrier under an ESA call (2023), on Loft Orbital's YAM-6 (funded by an AFWERX STTR Phase II award), and in end-to-end in-orbit demonstrations with the U.S. Space Force. A maritime offering on Sidus Space LizzieSat satellites is in an early access programme, and an in-orbit demonstration with NOVI's GENIE platform was agreed in February 2026. Little Place Labs
Little Place Labs is a Houston-based space technology company, founded by alumni of the University of Oxford, that develops Orbitfy, edge-computing software that runs AI and machine-learning models on board satellites to process data in orbit. Its OrbitfyEDGE service and OrbitfyVIEW web portal deliver alerts and insights from optical, multispectral, hyperspectral, thermal and SAR data to decision-makers within minutes of capture, for maritime surveillance, disaster management, defence and finance and insurance uses. For satellite operators, its OrbitfyPREP modules preprocess, filter, compress and encrypt imagery on board before downlink.
