OpenConstellation is the shared Earth observation satellite constellation that Open Cosmos builds and operates. Owning a satellite is beyond the budget of many governments and companies; OpenConstellation lets them buy imagery from a shared fleet instead, and members that contribute a satellite receive free data, priority tasking and three times the amount of data over their region. Contributing satellites include Menut, promoted by the Government of Catalonia and the Institut d'Estudis Espacials de Catalunya (IEEC), and Platero, commissioned by the Junta de Andalucía through AGAPA; the Satellite Applications Catapult has signed an agreement for a satellite to join the constellation.
The flagship Hyper-500 product delivers hyperspectral imagery in 32 bands (430-900 nm plus panchromatic) at 4.75 m resolution with a 19 km swath, bi-weekly global revisit and onboard AI; it won the EARSC EXPANDEO 2026 Product Award. The archive also holds Multi-500 multispectral imagery (4.75 m) from Menut and Platero, Phisat-2 products from the same payload, VNIR-250 (2.5 m) from MANTIS and SWIR-5000 short-wave infrared imagery (50 m) from ALISIO-1, built for IACTEC, delivered as cloud-optimised GeoTIFFs at L1 processing levels. OpenConstellation 1.0, a next generation of 15 satellites whose first two (Posidònia and Hyperion GR-1) launched in July 2026, adds VNIR-100 (1 m), Multi-150 (1.5 m), SWIR-2000 (20 m), Hyper-1800 (150 bands) and AIS & IoT products, with onboard AI and inter-satellite links intended to deliver insights in as little as 30 minutes.
Buyers search the archive or task satellites, with cloud-coverage estimation, through Open Cosmos's DataCosmos platform and its API; the imagery is also offered on the UK Earth Observation Data Hub. Stated applications include precision agriculture, wildfire monitoring, maritime surveillance and oil-spill detection, environmental compliance, mineral and soil analysis, water quality and infrastructure monitoring.
