Octave Imagine, formerly ERDAS IMAGINE, is desktop remote sensing software for geographic imaging professionals who need to turn large volumes of satellite, aerial, UAV, radar and LiDAR data into maps and derived information. Octave describes it as the world's most widely used remote sensing software package. It combines remote sensing, photogrammetry, LiDAR analysis, basic vector analysis, radar processing and AI in one Windows application.
The software works with more than 200 image and GIS formats, including native products from Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2, Sentinel-3, Landsat 8 and 9, Pléiades, WorldView, PlanetScope, SkySat, BlackSky, TerraSAR-X, ICEYE, Capella and PRISMA, and supports a wide range of sensor models for orthorectification. Its tools cover mosaicking, image classification (K-Means, ISODATA, object-based segmentation and machine and deep learning), change detection, AI object detection, hyperspectral analysis, terrain and surface modelling, and 2D and 3D visualisation. The Spatial Modeler builds no-code processing chains, with Python scripting, batch and distributed processing and Google Earth Engine operators.
Imagine is sold in four tiers (Essentials, Advantage, Professional and Photogrammetry), with add-ons that include SAR Interferometry, SAR Feature Extraction, DSM Extractor, Imagine Objective and ATCOR atmospheric correction. Named users include RAG Aktiengesellschaft, which uses Imagine and Imagine Photogrammetry to build terrain models that measure ground movement over former coal mines in Germany to centimetre accuracy; Romania's National Center of Cartography, through a cartography data management system built on Imagine and other Octave products; V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University; and Sachsenforst, Saxony's state forest enterprise, whose forest-data and remote sensing system, built by GEOSYSTEMS on Imagine and Alto Data Management, supports forest management planning and the federal and state forest inventories.
