NV5 Custom Solutions

NV5 Custom Solutions is the project team of NV5 Geospatial Software, the company behind ENVI and IDL. It offers organisations with a geospatial project a team of remote-sensing and subject-matter experts who scope the requirements with the client and engineer a tailored solution, for projects of all scales.

The team's stated practice areas are hyperspectral analysis (identifying materials, detecting vegetation processes and classifying objects), Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) analysis that works regardless of environmental conditions, machine learning and deep learning, LiDAR and 3-D mapping, weather monitoring, and GPU-accelerated processing. Its developers build custom applications that extend ENVI and IDL, covering system architecture, UI design, technical analysis, QA/QC and documentation, and it provides on-site, at-NV5 or virtual support while the software is deployed into the client's workflows. NV5 lists Airbus, Planet, Esri, sarmap and cloudeo among the strategic partners it delivers projects with.

Published projects include the HICO Image Processing System, built with HySpeed Computing as one of the first ENVI Server projects: a web application for on-demand processing of hyperspectral data from the HICO imaging spectrometer on the International Space Station. Funded by the ISS National Laboratory, it received the 2019 ISS R&D Conference award for Compelling Results in Earth Science and Remote Sensing. The team also helped HySpeed run a fully operational version of ENVI on Hewlett Packard Enterprise's Spaceborne Computer-2 aboard the ISS. For the wind-blade inspection company BladeEdge, it trained machine-learning models for an automated ENVI Inform workflow that NV5 reports locates blade damage in drone imagery with 98.8% accuracy.
