The National GCP Library is Survey of India's nationwide network of monumented ground control points (GCPs), the control framework on which, according to Survey of India, all surveying and mapping in India has to be based so that maps and land measurement stay consistent across the country. The GCPs replaced the old Great Trigonometrical (GT) stations and give state cadastral departments and other agencies producing geospatial information a common geocentric reference.
The points were fixed by satellite positioning. In phase I, 291 well-monumented GCPs about 250-300 km apart were each observed for 72 hours of GNSS and processed against International GNSS Service (IGS) stations with Bernese 5.0 scientific software; in phase II, about 2,260 further GCPs at 25-30 km spacing were observed for about 8 hours and processed relative to the phase I points, after which the whole network was adjusted. Coordinates are given in ITRF 2008 at epoch 2005, and Survey of India states a relative accuracy of about 1 cm between neighbouring GPS stations.
Buyers obtain the coordinates and descriptions of the pillars as PDF data through Survey of India's Online Maps Portal or by indent form. The published geodetic data rate is Rs 50,000 for up to three GCP Library pillars and Rs 15,000 for each additional point. Surveyors tie new GNSS surveys to the GCPs as fixed stations, and Survey of India's CORS network is itself coordinated with reference to the adjusted GCPs.

Survey of India
Survey of India is the national survey and mapping organisation of India under the Department of Science & Technology, set up in 1767. As the country's principal mapping agency it produces topographic, geographical and thematic maps and GIS data and maintains the national geodetic framework, including a subscription network of Continuously Operating Reference Stations for GNSS positioning. Its maps and digital data are distributed through its Online Maps Portal.
