Multispectral Infrared (MSIR) Data is Muon Space's Earth observation imagery product for broad-area thermal monitoring, purpose-built for wildfire detection, a task where the multi-purpose satellite systems currently relied upon do not see fires with sufficient detail or frequency for many applications. The imagery comes from Muon's in-house Quickbeam multispectral infrared instrument on Muon-built satellites: the FireSat Protoflight, launched in March 2025, and the first three operational FireSat satellites built for Earth Fire Alliance, launched in July 2026. Each instrument records six channels (Red, NIR, SWIR, two mid-wave infrared bands MWIR1 and MWIR1a, and long-wave infrared) across a 1,500 km swath. According to Muon and Earth Fire Alliance, the mid-wave bands can detect fires as small as 5×5 m, MWIR1 and LWIR together measure fire radiative power, and LWIR helps prevent false alarms such as sunlight glinting off bright surfaces. Data are delivered as calibrated L1B single-band frames and L1C orthomosaic tiles directly to the customer's cloud environment. Muon cites daily global coverage from the Protoflight, twice-daily revisit at initial operational capability in 2026, and a constellation buildout toward hourly global revisit by 2029. Muon holds contracts with the US National Reconnaissance Office under its Strategic Commercial Enhancements framework to deliver multispectral EO/IR data, including a 2025 Stage II award for continued testing and evaluation. FireSat was named one of TIME's Best Inventions of 2025.

Muon Space
Muon Space designs, builds and operates satellite constellations for national security, civil and commercial customers through its Mission Foundry, which covers mission design and simulation, Condor spacecraft platforms, payloads, onboard AI compute, constellation production and managed orbital services. It also delivers calibrated Earth observation data from Muon-built satellites: multispectral infrared imagery for wildfire and thermal monitoring, and GNSS-reflectometry soil moisture and ocean wind speed products. Founded in 2021, it has production facilities in Mountain View and San Jose, California.
