Government agencies that monitor vegetation, enforce land-management rules or plan development across very large areas need a single, current and visually consistent image of the whole territory, but individual satellite scenes differ in colour, cloud cover and alignment. Mosaics is Geoimage's production service for stitching many overlapping satellite scenes into one seamless, georeferenced imagery dataset.
Geoimage captures multiple images over the client's area with a constellation suited to the project, typically Airbus SPOT 6/7 (1.5 m resolution, 60 km swaths) for statewide work. Each image is georeferenced, and the raw panchromatic and multispectral imagery is orthorectified, pansharpened and colourised. The team refines software-generated cutlines, corrects colour, masks cloud (recapturing cloudy areas) and refines excessively dark areas; Geoimage says in-house automation and quality-control methods have halved total delivery time. For New South Wales the deliverables included a statewide JPEG2000 mosaic, 100k mapsheet GeoTIFF tiles in GDA94 and GDA2020, multispectral, pan-sharpened and panchromatic scenes, and shapefile cutlines.
Geoimage reports more than 25 mosaics delivered over three decades. It produces recurring statewide mosaics of New South Wales covering more than 800,000 km² (Airbus describes the 2025 project as the 17th statewide mosaic for NSW) and delivered three statewide epochs of Victoria, each over 300,000 km² with under 1% cloud, for the Digital Twin Victoria program. It also produced a 30 cm WorldView-3 mosaic of 881 km² in Antarctica for the Australian Antarctic Division to locate elephant seal colonies.
