Monitoring as a Service (MaaS) is a managed Earth observation service from Geoimage, an Australian satellite imagery reseller and geospatial specialist. It is aimed at organisations that must track change across large or remote areas for environmental compliance, land-use policy and other legal requirements, without repeated field surveys or site visits.
The customer supplies an area of interest and a capture frequency, and Geoimage does the rest: it sources archive and newly tasked high-resolution satellite imagery from partners including Maxar (now Vantor), Airbus and RESTEC, processes it (enhancement, georeferencing) and runs change detection using multiple spectral bands and machine-learning algorithms. Resolutions of 15cm HD, 30cm, 40cm, 50cm, 1m and 1.5m are offered, with capture frequencies from weekly to monthly, quarterly, annual or custom periods. Positive and negative land change, such as vegetation clearing, regrowth or new construction, is mapped over time.
Results are delivered as change vectors in industry GIS formats, as raster data streamed via Web Map Tile Service (WMTS), as reports quantifying the area changed in a given period, or through groundWATCH, Geoimage's web dashboard hosted on servers in Australia, where users query changes by location and date. Stated applications include mining ground clearance and rehabilitation, infrastructure and urban development, deforestation and environmental monitoring, crop health and insurance risk assessment.
