Momentick

Momentick is a software-only methane monitoring system for oil and gas producers, pipeline operators and landfill operators. According to the company, about 3% of captured natural gas is lost through leaks before it can be used, an estimated $60 billion a year, and much of it goes unnoticed because methane is invisible.

Momentick applies proprietary image-processing algorithms to short-wave infrared bands affected by methane, comparing them with unaffected bands, to reveal the presence, concentration, emission rate (with a confidence level) and source of methane plumes within hours. It combines open data from Landsat and Sentinel-2 with commercial and hyperspectral imagery (Maxar WorldView-3, PRISMA, EnMAP) and selects satellites to suit each asset; the company says Landsat is central to its offshore detection. The company states it can measure emissions as low as about 750 lb/h, detect emissions down to about 225 lb/h with hyperspectral satellites, and monitor any site every 48 hours. No hardware or site installation is needed: users enter the coordinates of a facility or area, set a reporting frequency, receive email alerts, compare current and historical measurements, and export PDF reports. Detection data can also flow automatically into SensorUp's emissions management platform.

In July 2025 Momentick detected and quantified two controlled releases of somewhat less than 700 kg/h at Colorado State University's METEC satellite release rig using Sentinel-2 and Landsat. Sompo Japan Insurance offers Momentick's satellite analysis to its energy clients alongside JGC Global's on-site measurement, and insurers and governments are also among its users.
