MIS Investigations is the investigation and expert-witness service of McKenzie Intelligence Services (MIS), a London catastrophe-intelligence company that has been part of Verisk since July 2026. It addresses complex insurance losses where loss adjusting, forensic accounting and traditional investigation cannot establish what happened, when and where.
MIS analysts, whom the company describes as former military intelligence analysts, draw up an intelligence collection plan for each case. They use archive satellite and aerial imagery, from catalogues spanning the last 20 years, to compare sites before and after an event, verify physical damage for any date range and check whether customers and staff could reach a site on a given day. The imagery evidence is fused with other sources such as cordons and road closures, curfews, emergency-service response, IoT, CCTV, social media and news to produce timelines and evidence reports. MIS often acts as expert witness and is regularly deposed on behalf of insurers; its company timeline records depositions in US courts on complex claims investigations in 2018.
Clients are claims teams, third-party administrators, loss adjusters and legal teams. In one published case, a US law firm representing a global insurer engaged MIS on a business-interruption claim worth over $25m from a restaurant chain across the southern US after a hurricane; MIS's timeline was used to quantify the claim and reduce it by half. In 2020 arbitrators found in favour of a reinsurance client after MIS used multispectral imagery to map the spread of a wildfire, helping it defend a multi-million-dollar business-interruption loss. The service line also offers advisory work, curated imagery from satellite, aerial, drone and sensor sources, and training in intelligence, imagery-based investigations and imagery analysis.
