Metryc is Reask's tropical cyclone event-response and parametric trigger product. After every tropical cyclone it models the wind gusts and rainfall that each location experienced on a global 1 x 1 km grid. This lets parametric covers settle on wind at the insured site rather than on proxies such as distance from the storm track.
Metryc takes track and intensity data from meteorological agencies (NHC, JTWC, JMA, BOM; IBTrACS best tracks for historical storms). It runs 100 ensemble simulations per event with machine-learning wind-field models trained on Reask's InCyc database of 1 km WRF simulations. A terrain-correction model converts over-water winds into 3-second gusts over land across eight wind directions. Its grids are built from SRTM 90 m radar elevation data and land-cover maps: NLCD in the US and the global GLCNMO product elsewhere. Outputs come as full-terrain, open-terrain and open-water footprints. An interim footprint is ready within 12 hours of landfall and trigger values within 48 hours. A historical catalogue holds more than 4,000 footprints since 1945.
Reask reports validation against more than 1,200 anemometer observations in the USA and the Western Pacific, with a mean absolute error below 5 m/s. The method is peer-reviewed in the Journal of Catastrophe Risk and Resilience (2026). Metryc underpins parametric products from Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, AXA Climate, Descartes Underwriting, the Pacific Catastrophe Risk Insurance Company (PCRIC) and SRS Altitude, whose dual trigger combines a cat-in-the-circle wind trigger with Metryc rainfall data. It is the settlement basis for ForecastEx live hurricane contracts, and the reinsurance broker Juniper Re offers Metryc data to its clients for event response. Data is delivered through a REST API (GeoTIFF and GeoJSON footprints, with a Python client), the Metryc Quoting App and the Metryc Viewer App.

Reask
Reask builds climate-connected tropical cyclone risk models for insurers, reinsurers, ILS investors, financial markets, corporates and governments. Its DeepCyc stochastic event set gives climate-adjusted views of risk, LiveCyc provides probabilistic wind forecasts at 1 km resolution up to 72 hours before landfall, and Metryc reconstructs wind and rainfall footprints for every tropical cyclone and serves as a parametric insurance calculation agent.
