Free, open-access ocean data and forecasts for the global and European seas.

The Copernicus Marine Service (CMEMS) is the marine component of the European Union's Copernicus Programme, delivering free, open-access, science-based information on the past, present and future state of the global ocean and European regional seas. It is implemented by Mercator Ocean International under a delegation from the European Commission. CMEMS fuses observations from satellites (altimetry, sea-surface temperature, ocean colour, sea ice) and in-situ networks with numerical ocean models and data assimilation to produce near-real-time analyses, multi-day forecasts, multi-decadal reanalyses and climate indicators. Products span physical ocean variables (currents, temperature, salinity, sea level), sea ice, and biogeochemistry (chlorophyll, nutrients, oxygen, carbon). The catalogue serves marine safety, maritime transport and route optimisation, offshore and marine renewable energy, water-quality and pollution monitoring, coastal and climate-change applications, and scientific research. Data are accessed openly through the Copernicus Marine Data Store, the MyOcean web viewer, and the official copernicusmarine Python toolbox/API, primarily in NetCDF and Zarr formats with subsetting and direct download.
