Mapping (Cartografía)

Mapping (Cartografía) is the geological-mapping service line of Detector Exploraciones, a Mexican mining-services company founded in 1997 that works on mining projects in Mexico and abroad. It supplies mining companies and the public sector with the geological maps used to decide where to explore.

In the company's words, the work starts with a review and analysis of previous studies and the interpretation of satellite images, after which the conclusions are checked in the field. The remote-sensing team integrates geospatial imagery of various spatial and spectral resolutions, applying orthorectification, georeferencing, atmospheric correction, mosaicking and spectral classification, and combines it with field data acquired by its own crews. The provider does not name the satellite missions it uses.

Deliverables include geological maps with detailed interpretation of structures, faults, folds and alteration zones, and digital models with detailed terrain characterisation. The company cites regional geologic-mining cartography at scales of 1:250,000, 1:50,000 and 1:10,000, plus semi-detail (1:5,000 to 1:1,000) and detail (1:500 to 1:50) mapping used to identify alteration areas and mineralized structures. Detector Exploraciones states that it has produced more than 100 geological maps in collaboration with the Servicio Geológico Mexicano (Mexican Geological Survey). The mapping is sold alongside the company's drilling, geochemistry, geophysics, exploration and mining-property services.
