Mantle Enterprise is BAE Systems OneArc's collaborative terrain management system for military simulation, training and mission rehearsal. OneArc describes traditional terrain workflows as complex, slow and costly, and built Mantle for organisations whose simulation systems, game-based training tools and web applications must all show the same correlated 3D terrain.
Mantle ingests geospatial source data, which OneArc lists as base maps, high-resolution satellite or aerial imagery, elevation, vegetation, 3D buildings and vector data such as roads, together with drone survey data and existing terrain databases such as CDB and OpenFlight. It fuses and procedurally enhances these into simulation-ready terrain. Users can start from OneArc's global base terrain or bring their own data; OneArc's third-party licence list for Mantle includes EOX's Sentinel-2 cloudless 2022 imagery and Airbus satellite imagery, and Mantle can also take in Blackshark.ai SYNTH3D data, which is derived from satellite imagery. Terrain is managed through a browser interface, streamed to runtimes including VBS4, Blue IG and Unreal Engine 5, and exchanged through 3D Tiles, CDB, WMS/WMTS and One World Terrain with tools such as Esri ArcGIS and QGIS.
The Enterprise edition runs in the customer's private cloud and adds user and role management tied to existing identity management, concurrent multi-user sessions, branching and rollback of terrain revisions, and parallel processing across Mantle nodes. OneArc's flyer reports a dense 1-degree CDB import falling from 5 hours to 45 minutes on the new architecture. OneArc announced that the Italian Ministry of Defense selected VBS4 and Mantle under a five-year contract awarded in December 2025.
