Lithology and Structural Interpretation is a geological mapping service for mineral exploration that Geoimage, an Australian satellite imagery and geospatial company, delivers with its specialist interpretation partner G. Daneel (Gavin Daneel & Associates). It helps exploration teams build an accurate picture of rock units, alteration and structure across a project area, so they can optimise targeting, reduce operational risk and make informed decisions throughout exploration projects.
The service is built on stereoscopic (3D) interpretation of high-resolution satellite and airborne imagery, combined with image analysis and 3D modelling. The interpreter maps lithology, alteration zones and structural features, and assesses regolith, drainage patterns and surficial materials. Remotely sensed geophysical data are integrated to map subsurface geology, structures, alteration and groundwater, and neural-network analysis of multi-generational airborne and satellite imagery is used to map and monitor geological, environmental and cultural features. The stereoscopic mapping is then combined with complementary datasets such as geochemistry to identify, prioritise and rank exploration targets and anomalies, supporting risk assessment and exploration and environmental planning. Interpretation outputs are delivered in formats compatible with GIS and Google Earth, for use in the client's existing workflows.
What distinguishes the service is the interpreter's experience: Gavin Daneel has worked in geological consulting, project management and mineral exploration since 1982, has worked alongside Geoimage's original founders since late 1987, and adds specialist expertise in mineral spectral analysis using machine-learning techniques.
