Kontur Atlas is a web-based geospatial analysis platform from Kontur for location questions: where to open a store, distribution centre or EV charging station, how to plan urban land use and infrastructure, and which areas are exposed to climate and natural hazards. It removes the work of finding, cleaning and combining data before analysis can start.
Atlas provides more than 200 ready-to-use data layers on demographics, infrastructure, economy, climate, land cover and hazards, aggregated to a global grid of 400 m H3 hexagons by Kontur's open-source Geocint pipeline. Several layers come from satellite observation: NDVI from a Sentinel-2 L2A mosaic, VIIRS night-time lights from the Suomi NPP and NOAA-20 satellites, VIIRS and MODIS active-fire detections from NASA FIRMS, and forest canopy height modelled from Maxar imagery. Others come from OpenStreetMap, the Kontur Population dataset, the JRC Global Human Settlement Layer, the INFORM risk index and climate-warming scenarios.
Users combine layers in multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA), which can pick and set up the relevant layers from a natural-language query, compare two regions, and generate AI Insights summaries for any area. Kontur also runs site-selection analyses on the platform as a service, ending in a report that ranks candidate locations; in one published case a fast-food chain grew its market share by 10%.
Atlas launched in July 2024. It is sold in Educational, Professional and Custom plans, priced at $100 to $1,000 per month, with a free trial.
