KOMPSAT (Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite) is a series of Earth observation satellites developed by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI). SI Imaging Services (SIIS) has handled worldwide commercial distribution of KOMPSAT imagery since 2014.
The optical satellites KOMPSAT-2, KOMPSAT-3 and KOMPSAT-3A supply panchromatic plus four-band multispectral imagery (blue, green, red, near-infrared), at 0.4 m panchromatic / 1.6 m multispectral resolution for KOMPSAT-3A, 0.5 m / 2.0 m for KOMPSAT-3 (both 14-bit), and 1.0 m / 4.0 m (10-bit) for KOMPSAT-2. KOMPSAT-5 carries an X-band synthetic aperture radar with resolution up to 0.85 m, imaging day and night and through cloud in spotlight, strip and wide-swath modes. KOMPSAT-7, launched on 2 December 2025, adds a 0.3 m-class optical payload.
Buyers search more than ten years of KOMPSAT archive or place new tasking orders over their own area of interest (minimum order 100 km²) through the SIIS SpaceEye ordering platform, with tasking priorities up to emergency collection. Optical products are supplied at levels 1R, 1G and 1O as PAN+MS bundles or pan-sharpened GeoTIFF; SAR products at L1A, L1C and L1D in HDF5 or GeoTIFF, delivered by FTP or DVD.
SIIS lists applications in mapping, infrastructure, oil and gas facilities, agriculture, forestry and environment, disaster monitoring, maritime surveillance and defence. KOMPSAT imagery is also supplied to the International Charter on Space and Major Disasters, and is resold through a partner network of more than 160 companies in 65 countries.
