KAZGISA, an Astana-based geoinformation company founded in 2016, runs a remote sensing practice that turns satellite, aerial and drone imagery into maps and monitoring products for regional administrations, subsoil users and construction projects in Kazakhstan.
Its monitoring of common minerals service establishes the actual area of subsoil use and calculates excavation volumes over a set period, using remote sensing materials with a spatial resolution of 1 m or better obtained by stereo imaging. A sample report on the company's site, prepared for the geoinformation portal of the Atyrau region akimat's situational centre under the heading of space monitoring, compares a 2017 SPOT 6 satellite scene (1.5 m resolution) with a 2019 drone survey of a sand-and-gravel deposit. It maps the quarry, spoil heaps and levelled areas, calculates excavation volumes and records activity outside the licensed geological allotment.
Land-use monitoring supports Kazakhstan's state land monitoring by identifying changes in the condition and use of land plots for state and local government bodies and land holders. For thematic and topographic mapping, such as 1:2,000 topographic maps, KAZGISA combines existing cartographic data and field surveys with remote sensing materials obtained from spacecraft, aircraft or UAVs.
The company's own aerial surveys use Supercam UAVs with full-frame cameras and dual-frequency Javad GNSS receivers (GPS, GLONASS and Galileo) for post-processed positioning. They deliver orthophotos at 1:500 scale and smaller with up to 2 cm per pixel, height models, dense point clouds and textured 3D models. Satellite imagery is one of several sources: most of the remote sensing work the company publishes comes from aerial and drone surveys.
