The Illinois Geospatial Data Clearinghouse is the Illinois State Geological Survey's (ISGS) web portal for downloading published geospatial data about Illinois. Hosted by ISGS since 1 July 1997, it is a node of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure Clearinghouse Network, and ISGS describes it as providing downloadable Illinois geospatial data, GIS datasets and remote sensing resources. Its catalogue of more than 100 datasets is grouped into climate, coastal, elevation, geology, hydrology, imagery, infrastructure, land cover and reference categories; most holdings are geological maps, well and oil and gas field data, county LiDAR collections and aerial orthophotography such as NAIP.
The space input is in the land cover category, which holds statewide classifications made from satellite imagery: the Land Cover of Illinois 1999-2000 inventory with a Landsat 7 ETM+ panchromatic image mosaic, the Illinois Gap Analysis Program land cover classified from Landsat Thematic Mapper scenes, and USDA-NASS Cropland Data Layers produced from Landsat 5 and Landsat 7 imagery for 1999-2005 and from Resourcesat-1 AWiFS imagery from 2006. For the 2007 Cropland Data Layer, remote sensing scientists from ISGS, the Illinois Natural History Survey and USDA-NASS ran a formal accuracy assessment, and ISGS and INHS released a revised version. The satellite-derived layers cover 1999 to 2007.
Datasets are zipped downloads in formats such as GeoTIFF, Erdas Imagine, ESRI GRID and MrSID with metadata, and many also have ArcGIS REST map or image services and an online viewer. ISGS lists its users as state and federal agencies, local governments, universities, schools and private businesses. ISGS states that its services are provided at no cost, and asks users to cite the source of any data they publish.

Illinois State Geological Survey
The Illinois State Geological Survey (ISGS) is a scientific survey of the Prairie Research Institute at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign that supports Illinois' environmental quality, economic development and public safety with earth science research and information. Its staff conduct basic and applied research in geology, compile geologic maps, gather and manage Illinois' geological data, and inform industry, municipalities, government agencies and the public about the state's geology and mineral resources. It is the official repository for Illinois drilling records and samples, runs the Illinois Geospatial Data Clearinghouse and web map applications such as ILMINES, ILOIL and ILWATER, and offers laboratory, drilling and geophysical services on a cost-recovery basis.
