ICEYE Wildfire Insights

ICEYE Wildfire Insights gives insurers, government agencies and utilities building-level information on wildfire damage while fires are still burning, when smoke, cloud and darkness ground aerial surveys and block optical imagery.

The service is built on ICEYE's own synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite constellation, which images through smoke, clouds and darkness. ICEYE blends the SAR imagery with building footprints, ground-truth observations and third-party data, using an AI model combined with an expert team. Every residential and commercial structure inside the fire perimeter is classified as destroyed or undamaged and delivered as GIS-ready vector data (latitude/longitude points or building footprints). The first release usually arrives within 24 hours of fire detection, with updates every 24 hours until the fire is more than 60% contained. A web application hosted in Esri ArcGIS Experience Builder shows active fire perimeters, hotspots, building footprints and populated centres. The data is also available through partner platforms including Arturo, Betterview, EigenRisk and Esri ArcGIS.

Coverage spans the United States, Australia and, since July 2026, Canada. For the January 2025 Los Angeles fires, ICEYE reports 99% precision for both the Palisades and Eaton fires, with 91% and 95% recall respectively, against CAL FIRE field inspections; FEMA and state and local agencies used its insights during those fires. Aon licenses the US wildfire data for reinsurance event response, Juniper Re uses it under a multi-year agreement, and Liberty's parametric wildfire cover, launched in June 2026, uses its building-level classification to trigger payouts.
