Horizon AI HI-RES is Climavision's high-resolution regional numerical weather prediction model for short-range forecasting of localized, high-impact weather such as derechos, severe storms, heavy rainfall and damaging wind, where coarser government models can miss small-scale systems and terrain effects.
The model dynamically downscales with WRF, initialised from HRRR in the USA and GFS elsewhere, using physics schemes developed by Climavision's team and optimized for different regions. Climavision's proprietary data assimilation integrates real-time radar, satellite and surface observations to improve the initial conditions, and the model can also assimilate a client's own weather station data. It runs at 2 km grid spacing over the contiguous US with customizable 0.67 km sub-domains, 51 vertical levels and more than 50 forecast parameters, producing a fresh forecast every 6 hours in hourly increments on in-house and cloud-based supercomputing. Climavision states that it uses AI techniques to maintain quality control and increase computational power.
Climavision offers HI-RES to energy traders and electric utilities, broadcast meteorologists, agriculture, aviation, drone, insurance, commodity-trading and transportation operators. Published examples include the Houston (May 2024) and Chicago (July 2024) derechos, where Climavision reports HI-RES outperformed HRRR on damaging winds, and the 2025 Kentucky Derby, where its forecast signalled race-time rain seven days ahead for WAVE-TV.

Climavision
Climavision is a US weather intelligence company that operates a supplemental, gap-filling network of high-resolution dual-polarization weather radars across the United States and offers its data as a subscription service. It also runs its own Horizon AI forecast models (global, high-resolution regional, site-specific point and subseasonal-to-seasonal), which combine numerical weather prediction and AI with observations including proprietary GPS radio occultation data, delivered through an API and interactive maps. The company is based in Louisville, Kentucky.
