Global Mapper is a Windows desktop GIS application from Blue Marble Geographics. It is aimed at GIS professionals, surveyors, engineers, utilities, government agencies and emergency services that would otherwise combine separate tools for data conversion, lidar processing, terrain analysis, geodesy and map production.
The software reads and writes more than 300 vector, raster, elevation and point-cloud formats. Its Online Data tool streams imagery, basemaps and terrain, and opens USGS EarthExplorer (Landsat) and the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem (Sentinel data) at the current map extent. For satellite imagery it combines separate bands into multiband images, offers band-combination presets and pan-sharpening, and its Raster Calculator has predefined NDVI, NDWI, NBR and other index formulas for Landsat 8 OLI and Sentinel-2 MSI bands. Other tools cover lidar and point-cloud classification, drone photogrammetry (Pixels to Points), contours, viewsheds, watershed analysis and flood simulation, deep-learning land cover classification and building and vehicle detection, coordinate transformations through Blue Marble's GeoCalc geodetic engine, and Global Mapper and Python scripting.
Since September 2026 it is sold as an annual subscription in Essentials, Advanced and Professional tiers; Advanced and Professional also include Geographic Calculator and MAPublisher for Adobe Illustrator. Maps prepared in Global Mapper can be packaged for the company's Avenza Maps field app. Published customer stories include Suncor Energy, the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, Bintang Subsea Indonesia and the Windham, Maine Police Department.
