Global Flood Map is Fathom's worldwide flood hazard dataset for insurers, financial markets, engineers, corporates and governments that need a consistent view of flood risk. It covers pluvial, fluvial and coastal flooding for any region, as flood depths for return periods from 5 to 1,000 years in defended and undefended views, and as Risk Scores (Relative Risk and Risk Category) for assets and portfolios. Its Climate Dynamics framework conditions the hazard on any combination of future year and climate scenario up to 2100.
The ~30 m (1 arcsecond) global layers are modelled on FABDEM+, Fathom's bare-earth terrain: machine learning removes forests and buildings from the satellite Copernicus DEM, whose elevation data were acquired by the TanDEM-X radar mission, and local LiDAR is blended in where available. The global river network (MERIT-Hydro) draws on Landsat satellite imagery, and river channel widths are observed from satellite data. Where enhanced regional data permits, editions for the US, UK and Japan run at ~10 m. Fathom's peer-reviewed validation reports a Critical Success Index of about 0.75 for flood extent.
Data is delivered through the Fathom REST API and Python SDK (point, polygon and portfolio queries of up to 10 million locations), the Fathom Portal, GeoTIFF files for on-premise hosting, and partner platforms including Swiss Re's CatNet. Organisations quoted by Fathom include Sompo International, Microsoft and Arup, and the Texas Water Development Board uses its data for statewide flood planning.
