GeoExpress is LizardTech's desktop software for compressing and preparing very large geospatial imagery and LiDAR datasets. High-resolution satellite, aerial and drone imagery runs to gigabytes or terabytes, which makes it costly to store and slow to transmit, view and process.
GeoExpress encodes raster imagery into LizardTech's wavelet-based MrSID format, JPEG 2000 or NITF, and LiDAR point clouds into MrSID or LAZ, in lossless or visually lossless modes. LizardTech states that imagery can be reduced to as little as 1-2% of its original size, and LiDAR by up to 75% with no loss of spatial accuracy. It takes satellite products in GeoTIFF, NITF, ERDAS IMG and BIL/BIP/BSQ, handles multispectral bands from satellite sensors (MrSID Generation 4 holds up to 255 bands, with per-band compression ratios) and offers NITF options for defence and intelligence workflows. Built-in tools crop, reproject, mosaic, colour-balance and tile imagery, crop to shapefile boundaries and export selected extents, with batch processing and command-line tools for large collections. MrSID output opens in ArcGIS, QGIS, Global Mapper, ERDAS IMAGINE, ENVI, SOCET GXP, Autodesk and MicroStation products and through GDAL.
GeoExpress runs on Windows (version 11.0.1) and Linux, with local or floating licences and data cartridges that meter encoding volume. It does not include imagery: it processes the collections a buyer already holds. Québec's Ministry of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks reported 60% storage savings using GeoExpress with Express Server, and GeoExpress 9.x received a U.S. Army Certificate of Networthiness in 2017. LizardTech has been part of GeoWGS84 since November 2025.

LizardTech
LizardTech, a GeoWGS84 company, makes software for compressing, serving and viewing very large geospatial imagery and LiDAR datasets, built around the MrSID compression format, which it developed after its founding in 1992 from Los Alamos wavelet research. Its products are GeoExpress, which compresses satellite, aerial, drone and LiDAR data into MrSID, JPEG 2000 and LAZ, Express Server for streaming that imagery over OGC web services, and the GeoViewer Pro desktop viewer, plus MrSID SDKs and GIS plug-ins. GeoWGS84 Corp acquired the LizardTech product line from Extensis (Monotype) in November 2025.
