Forest Monitor

Forest Monitor is a continuous forest-monitoring and alerting service from Kumi Analytics for conservation-finance, forest-carbon and supply-chain risk teams. Forest loss and degradation can move faster than annual reporting cycles and occasional field visits; Forest Monitor provides wall-to-wall satellite monitoring of projects, concessions and landscapes so that teams can prioritise ground response.

The service combines synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and optical satellite stacks: SAR-supported persistence checks confirm clearing signatures in cloud-prone tropical areas, while optical composites and spectral indices give canopy-condition and seasonal context. Kumi Analytics names the high-revisit Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 missions for its continuous deforestation monitoring. Outputs include deforestation and disturbance alerts, signals of subtle canopy degradation that can precede clearance, change layers with standard legends across areas of interest, and map products, summaries and parcel-level evidence exports for internal governance, investor reporting and external technical review. Concession boundaries or supply-shed polygons can be supplied to drive summary statistics and ranked risk lists.

Monitoring cadence ranges from weekly windows during high-risk seasons to quarterly governance snapshots, and expected alert latency is set per area and season according to sensor revisit and cloud cover. Optional human-in-the-loop analyst review is available for high-stakes decisions, and residual error modes are documented. Forest Monitor complements Kumi Analytics' KACSAT biomass and carbon MRV platform.
