The Flood Intel Platform is Previsico's live flood-forecasting service for surface-water flooding, the type that free UK flood warnings, which typically cover river and coastal flooding only, do not address. It issues probabilistic, property-level alerts up to 48 hours ahead, giving the likelihood, severity and median depth of flooding per asset, refreshed hourly.
Forecasts come from Previsico's FloodMap+ hydrodynamic modelling suite, built on two decades of Loughborough University research. The model is parameterised with LiDAR elevation data, drainage maps, land-use, soil and geology maps and satellite imagery, and is driven by rainfall forecasts from providers including the Met Office and IBM's Weather Company across more than 200 modelled scenarios. Instacast adds a 24-hour lookback from observed radar rainfall, and managed radar water-level sensors and cameras check forecasts on the ground.
Results reach users through a web dashboard, email and text alerts, and a REST API (JSON, Mapbox Vector Tiles, GeoJSON asset upload). Liberty Specialty Markets delivers the platform to its insureds through its Risk Reduce portal via the API, and National Highways Area 7 reports a 66% reduction in scour-inspection frequency at six monitored structures. Previsico serves insurers, brokers, utilities, transport operators, councils, housing providers, construction firms and commercial property portfolios.
