Flood Hazard Maps

Flood Hazard Maps are 7Analytics' high-resolution flood hazard layers for insurers, banks and asset owners who need to understand flood exposure at property and portfolio level. 7Analytics argues that traditional hazard maps rely heavily on static input data and struggle to capture how today's built environment and climate dynamics influence risk.

The maps model flooding at 1×1 metre resolution and cover pluvial, fluvial and storm-surge flooding, including pre- and post-event flood footprints. At that resolution they pick up micro-level features such as curbs, embankments and drainage infrastructure. They are developed by 7Analytics' hydrologists, geologists and data scientists, use weather patterns for forward-looking risk assessment, and are updated quarterly to capture terrain, land-use and infrastructure changes. 7Analytics keeps its pre-conditioned landscape model current across the regions it covers, and its published modelling methodology lists satellite-derived land-use classifications among its geospatial inputs.

The same models support independent post-event validation. 7Analytics reconstructs past flood events by combining local rainfall observations, radar and satellite data, ground conditions and infrastructure changes with a machine-learning calibrated model, then compares observed flood extents, claims and modelled depths building by building. The company says it routinely validates events across Europe, the UK, the US and Australia.

Uses include underwriting, exposure management, credit assessment, infrastructure planning, parametric trigger reviews and model calibration. The maps are delivered through an API or a platform interface.
