EOxServer

EOxServer is an open-source Python application and framework, developed by EOX IT Services, for registering, processing and publishing Earth observation (EO) raster data and metadata through open web services. It addresses a common problem for operators of large EO archives: making satellite scenes searchable, viewable and downloadable over standard interfaces without duplicating files or pre-generating visualisations.

Originally designed for satellite imagery, EOxServer models data as coverages following the OGC WCS 2.0 Earth Observation Application Profile: datasets corresponding to individual satellite scenes, stitched mosaics and dataset series, each with EO metadata. Products can be registered from local files, S3 or OpenStack Swift object storage, HTTP or FTP, and from STAC Items. It ships built-in metadata readers for Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2 and Landsat 8 Level-1 products, alongside generic GDAL, EO-O&M and DIMAP readers. Data are published through OGC Web Coverage Service (including EO-WCS), Web Map Service (including EO-WMS), Web Processing Service, a Download Service for EO Products (DSEO) and an OpenSearch interface with time, geo and EO extensions. Band combinations such as true colour or near-infrared false colour are rendered on the fly, and results can be filtered on metadata such as cloud cover using CQL. A bundled browser client previews and downloads registered data, and the services can be used from GIS clients such as QGIS.

EOxServer is released under an MIT-style licence and has a project page on osgeo.org and is included on OSGeoLive. It installs with pip or from maintained Docker images and uses a SpatiaLite or PostGIS database. EOX reports operational deployments in its VirES services for ESA's Swarm and Aeolus missions, the Copernicus Space Component Data Access system (CSCDA), Mundi Web Services, EO-CAT and the EO Exploitation Platform Common Architecture (EOEPCA), and it is the core of EOX's View Server.
