eoVision Remote Sensing & Geoinformatics

eoVision Consulting, the geodata business of Salzburg-based eoVision GmbH (a technical office for surveying that specialises in producing geodata, especially satellite images), turns satellite data and other geodata into digital maps that clients can use directly in their production systems and geographic information systems. The company processes and analyses Earth observation imagery with pixel-based and object-based image analysis, with a focus on land-use mapping and cartography.

Beyond map production, eoVision builds GIS and interactive web-mapping applications, from simple query and research tools to geo-services and components for spatial data infrastructures, including INSPIRE implementations. Typical deliverables are mapping solutions for company web portals, information and research systems, community websites and citizen-information and e-government systems, plus integration of mapping into existing systems, spatial functions in databases and raster-data catalogues. It increasingly relies on open-source tools from the OSGeo ecosystem, such as OpenLayers, GeoServer, UMN MapServer, PostGIS and GeoNetwork.

Projects the company has published include data preparation and a spatial-data-infrastructure node for the EU FP7 project MS.MONINA on Natura 2000 habitat monitoring (from 2010), and an environmental and social impact assessment for Tanzania's Ministry of Water / Rufiji Basin Water Office on the Lugoda Dam and Maluluma hydropower scheme on the Ndembera River (2013, World Bank-financed), which included procuring and processing very-high-resolution satellite data.
