eoapp SDB-ONLINE is EOMAP's cloud-based web application for producing Satellite-Derived Bathymetry (SDB): gridded water-depth data for shallow coastal waters, created without on-site survey campaigns. It is aimed at surveyors, hydrographers, coastal engineers, modellers, scientists and coastal zone managers, who otherwise depend on costly ship-based or airborne surveys that leave nearshore data gaps.
Users define an area of interest anywhere in the world, select imagery manually or let the system rank scenes, and start processing in the cloud. The app connects directly to the Copernicus Sentinel-2 archive (10 m) and to Vantor very-high-resolution archives (1 m/2 m). Depth is calculated with EOMAP's physics-based method, which inverts the path of sunlight through the atmosphere and water column, so no site-specific calibration data are needed. Multi-scene processing combines several images for robust results, and automatic tide correction uses the global FES2014 tidal model. Mapping reaches from the shoreline to about one Secchi-disk depth, typically 10 to 20 m depending on water clarity.
Results can be viewed in 2D and 3D, compared with a nautical-chart base layer, cleaned with cut-off depth and manual tools, and validated with uploaded survey data or ICESat-2 satellite lidar bathymetry profiles. Outputs follow ISO and OGC standards. Premium users can call the processing through an API; QPS has integrated it into its hydrographic software. Access runs on prepaid credits, with a free account for demo areas. The app launched in 2022 with EU Horizon 2020 co-funding; its results were validated at ten sites in a peer-reviewed International Hydrographic Review paper.
