Environmental Time Series Analysis is a web application from Sensing Clues, a Netherlands-based non-profit conservation-technology provider, for monitoring landscape change in protected areas and other conservation project areas. It turns satellite imagery into time series and maps, so field teams and land managers can see where vegetation is declining or recovering and where fires recur without processing imagery themselves.
The app has two explorers. The NDVI Explorer derives the Normalised Difference Vegetation Index from ESA Sentinel-2 surface-reflectance imagery and NASA Terra MODIS imagery, accessed through Google Earth Engine. It offers a 12-month NDVI time series compared with historical trends, an NDVI Delta Map with monthly and annual change views, and a Land Cover Explorer that breaks NDVI trends down by land cover class such as trees, crops and rangeland. The Burned Area Explorer uses Terra MODIS imagery to map burned areas, compare fire activity with historical monthly and annual figures, and show a fire return period for areas that burn repeatedly; burned-area data can be downloaded as GeoJSON for use in GIS tools. Data are available from 2015 onwards at selectable spatial resolutions between 100 m and 1,000 m.
The app was developed with the volunteer data-science organisation CorrelAid and piloted at the Mponda Dam Project in Zambia by By Life Connected; project areas in Zambia, Kenya, Spain and Bulgaria are set up in it. Sensing Clues sells it as a service within its customisable Premium plan, priced per 200 km² area of interest with a one-off setup fee.
