ENVI SAR

Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images the Earth's surface day and night and through cloud and smoke, and can reveal millimetre-scale ground movement, but processing it has traditionally required specialist expertise. ENVI SAR is NV5 Geospatial Software's SAR processing and analysis offering, which runs in the ENVI desktop environment in two tiers.

ENVI SAR Essentials gives operational users streamlined workflows for the most common SAR tasks: amplitude and coherent change detection, moving-target detection, velocity estimation of ships and vehicles, automatic ship detection with optional AIS labelling, inverse-SAR refocusing, interferometric and stereo-radargrammetry DSM generation, and height and radar-cross-section measurement.

ENVI SARscape, developed by the Swiss company sarmap SA and distributed worldwide by NV5, is aimed at SAR specialists. It offers more than 200 tools with configurable parameters for amplitude, single- and multi-polarisation and interferometric processing, including speckle filtering, automatic co-registration, persistent scatterer and SBAS displacement time series, flood and oil-spill classification and displacement modelling. NV5 states that it supports all commercially available SAR datasets, including SICD; its release notes name Sentinel-1, TerraSAR-X, ICEYE, Capella, Umbra, NISAR and BIOMASS among the supported missions. SARscape tasks can also be run in ArcGIS Pro, chained in the ENVI Modeler, or scripted from Python and IDL.

NV5 publishes a case study of a nationwide Sentinel-1 InSAR monitoring system for strategic water facilities in Hungary, built for the Hungarian Disaster Management Service, whose core persistent scatterer processing uses ENVI SARscape.
