EDEO Satellite Remote Sensing is the satellite analysis service line of EDEO GmbH, a remote sensing and location intelligence company in Roding, Bavaria. It is aimed at organisations that want to optimise their monitoring systems and reduce costs with modern satellite remote sensing.
EDEO draws on Earth observation data, in particular from the satellites of the European Copernicus programme, and processes it with machine learning and spatial analysis into maps and analyses tailored to each client. The service line covers continental-scale mapping, multispectral and SAR remote sensing, land use and land cover change analysis, and disaster mapping, together with satellite imagery analysis, change detection and trend analysis for monitoring deforestation, illegal logging, and reforestation and restoration. For wildfires, EDEO points clients to its dedicated EDEO BlazeMap product.
In a 2019 project for the European Institute for International Economic Relations, EDEO used Copernicus Sentinel-2 and Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) data to map the burn scars of the Pantanal fires and classify burn severity in south-east Bolivia, including Otuquis National Park. The team combines forestry, environmental and computer science backgrounds; its founder has worked as a forester and Earth observation scientist, and a geodata engineer leads its deep-learning work.
