The Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) is one of six thematic services of the European Union's Copernicus Earth observation programme, implemented by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). CAMS delivers continuous, quality-controlled global information on atmospheric composition, covering air pollution and health, solar energy, greenhouse gases such as CO2 and methane, ozone and ultraviolet radiation, and anthropogenic emissions. It produces near-real-time analyses, five-day forecasts and multi-decade reanalyses by assimilating more than 90 satellite and in-situ data streams — including Copernicus Sentinel-5P (tropospheric trace gases), Sentinel-3 (aerosol optical depth and fire radiative power) and instruments on satellites such as Suomi-NPP — into ECMWF's atmospheric chemistry model. Data is provided fully free and open under the Copernicus licence, requiring only attribution. Users access products through the Atmosphere Data Store (ADS), interactively or programmatically via the CDS/ADS API, with outputs in standard NetCDF and GRIB formats. CAMS serves public administrations, energy and solar operators, health agencies, researchers and downstream app developers worldwide.
