EarthConsole® is a cloud platform from Progressive Systems for developing, testing, hosting and running Earth Observation (EO) data processing. It is aimed at research centres, universities, institutions, service developers and students, and removes the need to download large satellite datasets or to build and maintain processing infrastructure by placing computing power next to EO archives on Copernicus DIAS infrastructure.
The platform has four services. G-BOX provides virtual machines (4 to 64 vCPUs) with direct read access to collections including Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2, Sentinel-3, Sentinel-5P, Landsat and Envisat, and pre-installed SNAP, QGIS, GDAL, BRAT and JupyterLab. P-PRO runs parallel processing campaigns over a chosen area and period, managed by EarthConsole staff. P-PRO ON-DEMAND lets users configure, launch and monitor hosted processors themselves through a web interface. I-APP integrates a user's own or a third party's open processor into the platform. Hosted processors include P-SBAS InSAR deformation time series for Sentinel-1 (IREA-CNR), Sen2Cor for Sentinel-2, and SAR altimetry processors for CryoSat-2 and Sentinel-3.
EarthConsole hosts the ESA Altimetry Virtual Lab and the ESA Heritage Missions Virtual Lab. It launched in 2021 and grew out of the Research and Service Support service that Progressive Systems began operating for ESA in 2006. It publishes a price list for ESA Network of Resources-sponsored projects (G-BOX from EUR 668 per month or EUR 26.41 per day), whose vouchers can cover costs for research, educational and pre-commercial projects; unsponsored users receive a quotation. Named users include DTU Space and CENTEC, whose OCRE-funded altimetry processing campaigns ran on the platform, and CNR-IRPI (Sentinel-3 fully-focused SAR river levels for the DEMETRAS project), the University of Tübingen (sand dams, P-SBAS) and Politecnico di Torino (ground deformation, P-SBAS), which ran ESA Network of Resources-supported projects on it.
